Young Ecologists Summer Camp

Now in our 20th year offering our popular day camp! Be a part of Lehigh Gap Nature Center’s “Young Ecologists Camp” and immerse yourself in five fun-filled days of nature study and outdoor activities.
Monday, June 19 — Birds and habitats, adaptations (beaks and feet), use of binoculars and field guides; the Kittatinny Raptor Corridor Project and its importance to raptors, hike to Bake Oven Knob.
Tuesday, June 20 — Birds of Prey: Adaptations of Predators –program with live hawks and owls; bluebird next box construction, owl pellet dissection.
Wednesday, June 21 — Water quality testing, stream and pond ecology, water pollution, impact of watershed activity on streams; herp (amphibian and reptile) search.
Thursday, June 22 — Forest ecology, leaf/tree identification, forest fragmentation; deer and predators, value of predators in ecosystems; geology, forest hike.
Friday, June 23 — Lehigh Gap Restoration Project – Charcoal Trail Hike; ecological scavenger hunt; Pizza Party.
Time: 9:00 to 3:00 p.m. daily
Location: Meet at the Lehigh Gap Nature Center’s Osprey House at Lehigh Gap each morning. We will use a bus to travel to study sites and return by 3:00 each day.
Who is eligible: Any student currently in grade 5 – 7.
Registration Fee: $65 per student. Scholarships are available for economically disadvantaged children.
