Exploration, Environment and Whale Sharks in the Sea of Cortez
June 15, 2017 @ 8:00 AM - June 20, 2017 @ 12:00 PM
The Sea of Cortez is home to many examples of incredible natural beauty and progressive efforts to conserve this beauty. As well as diving with whale sharks and camping on the incredible island nature reserve of Espiritu Santo, this whistle-stop journey visits communities like the fishermen of Cabo Pulmo, the team creating a sustainable earthship in the desert and progressive NGOs to learn about how one of the poorest neighbourhoods in La Paz is now a thriving space full of fisherman conservationists.
Ninth Wave Global is an international organisation which aims to connect people, places and communities by slow travel in unique and remote spaces. Just a couple of hours by car from Los Cabos will bring you far from the usual tourist crowds, and this journey offers a great opportunity for newcomers and long-time Baja California visitors alike to see this region from an entirely different perspective.
For five nights, you’ll have private accommodation aboard our lovely boat on the Sea of Cortez, from which we’ll spend our days snorkelling and exploring the stunning coastline. We’ll visit our collaborating partners at Whale Shark Mexico, where you’ll be able to swim amongst the whale sharks while also digging a little deeper and learning about the work of the organisation to study and conserve these wonderful creatures. Visiting the white sands of Isla Espiritu Santo will be an unforgettable experience of the natural beauty of Baja California Sur, but we aim to gain a more fulfilling understanding by speaking with the organisations responsible for the protection of this incredible environment, including individuals from NGO Noroeste Sustentable, the Ponguinguiola project, and Earthship La Paz.
Accommodation and meals are included for the duration of the journey, and everything is a team effort, so expect to pitch in with the cooking! Please note that we recommend bringing some extra cash if you want to purchase any alcoholic drinks.
